The good news for Civic Centre tenants and exhibitors

Tenants of the Lester B. Pearson Civic Centre are getting some good news today — they will be allowed access to remove personal effects.

City CAO, Dan Gagnon, says the north wing of the centre has been graded structurally sound by the city’s structural engineer, so under a sign-in access only policy, the tenants can go in and remove records, equipment and art work.

The travelling Northern Ontario Art Association exhibit will now be able to move on to its next community and Community Living Algoma will be able remove sensitive files to secure them elsewhere.

The theatre section of the building where the partial roof collapse took place is still off limits.

Gagnon adds the pool will likely reopen today, but the arena will take weeks, so the rest of the ice season has been cancelled and snow removal will begin at the OPP building, fire hall and city hall.
