Anishinabek Police Service suspends its chief and deputy chief

The Anishinabek Police Service have appointed an acting police chief since the two top officers have been suspended.

Police Chief John W. Syrette and Deputy Chief Dave Whitlow were suspended with pay Friday, February 15th.

In the interim, Inspector Mark Lesage will serve as the acting police chief.

APS board chair Jeffrey Jacobs released a statement stating the suspensions were issued following complaints regarding the conduct of certain members of the senior command.

His statement did not specify the nature of the allegations, but said the board had hired an external investigator after receiving the complaints.

A disciplinary hearing is expected to be held in the Spring.

The Anishnabek Police Service has 12 detachments in 16 communities throughout Ontario, including Sagamok-Anishnawbek First Nation.
