Support for a suggestion from a Northern Ontario federal New Democrat to create a Defense of Canada medal is growing. Carol Hughes suggested the medal in a Private Member’s Bill. Hughes, the MP for Algoma Manitoulin Kapuskasing, is getting letters of support from across the country. The medal would recognize the work of thousands of men and women who protected Canada during the Cold War era. An Elliot Lake man, Captain Ulrich Krings, helped Hughes develop the idea for the medal.
