Elliot Lake council will have little, if any, say about a major cell company building a tower in the city.
Rogers is in the process of finalizing the paperwork for erecting a 70 metres high cell tower in the south end entrance of the city near the Esten-Highway 108 area.
When concerns about the location and its height were raised, council was surprised to find out there are virtually no local zoning regulations in place when it comes to Industry Canada approved telecommunications projects.
Only one resident expressed any concerns to the company when it held its public consultations, which ended on January 2nd.
Council wants more information about the legalities governing the project, so it will be brought back to the table for further discussion in the near future.
