Obituary for Devon William “Devo” Lachance

DEVON WILLIAM LACHANCE

Born Friday, September 15, 1995
Died Friday, February 8, 2019

Devon or Devo as he liked to be called, is a son, a brother, a grandson, a nephew, a friend. Devon is a charismatic individual who had a way to touch anyone in a special and unique way. He could put a smile on anyone’s face and light up a room just by entering it. Devon loved everyone, but he had a hard time to love himself.

An artist and a talented musician, and a joker who could make anyone laugh, Devon found delight in creating music, and his music will resonate in our ears forever.

In the last few months Devon struggled with personal issues. Our family had finally convinced him to move back home, so he could rest and take time to sort himself out. He seemed to be accepting of this and our family was anticipating his return home.

The week building up to his move home, he posted on Facebook that Devo Lachance and William Hannah (Devon’s two accounts) were moving home, and had created a fundraiser for himself. “Well we’re leaving Sudbury but we’re leaving with a party so join or contribute, because we both know Devo or William has brought a good time to you so give back and support the cause to this going away party.”

Devon planned on just having a good time during the week before Mom and Dad would arrive to help him pack up and move him home on Saturday.

Unfortunately Devon made a poor choice by doing “Purple Heroin” on Friday. We believe Devon took a chance by taking this drug, he was going to have one final high before coming home or took a chance on his demise. The latter prevailed. At 6:30, on Friday, February 8, 2019, Devon William Lachance was pronounced deceased. His parents, Ron and Holly, were en route to Sudbury at the time and learned of his passing later that night.

Devon is a statistic to Sudbury’s newest killer, Purple Heroin, “Purp” or “Purple” with Carfentanil. We as a society need to look at our youth and this Opioid Crisis to ensure that further tragedy can be prevented.

Devon had recently recorded a song that he wrote – Sisyphus – Devon refers to himself as Sisyphus. The harder I struggle the further I get behind. Devon, a very deep thinker, was making a statement. In Greek Mythology Sisyphus was the King of Ephyra. He was punished for his self aggrandizing craftiness or deceitful by being forced to roll an immense boulder up a hill only for it to roll down when it nears the top, repeating this action for eternity.

I push the rock to the top
And then I let the rock drop
For an eternity
For I am Sisyphus
I cannot escape this
It’s who I’ll always be

Sometimes I push that rock
Up to the mountain top
Like it’s gone out of style
But you and only you
Could ever have the power
To make Sisyphus smile

Sometimes I feel my lite is predetermined
and so my thing I can’t decide
Deeper look – and I will be hoping to find
You will be by my side.

Devon’s friend Brooke, did a card reading to see if there is anything he wants to tell her and the first was “Warrior of the Heart” – that I have a radiant spirit of light. Brooke then asked how his spirit is and she got “Ancestors” – that wisdom is blossoming and he is with ancestors. Brooke shared this with us Saturday. She also told us that Devon told her that he doesn’t touch the hard stuff especially since his friend passed away only a few months ago…….sucks that it came into his life again.

Devon is now at peace so we have to think of that and all the good things that Devon could do.

Following the lines of some well known lyrics…….Only the good die young and It’s better to burn out, than to fade away. Rock On, Devon, your spirit will forever live on.

Devon leaves behind to mourn, his mom and dad, Ron Jr. and Holly. His brother Aaron, and sister in law Michelle. His sister, Robyn. His grandparents, Ron Sr. and Cecile Lachance, and George and Anne Hannah. His Godmother, Angie Lachance. His Godfather, Ted Hannah (Jacinthe). Uncle Charlie and Aunt Jodi Lachance, Aunt Heather Hannah and Uncle James Duhaime, Uncle Tim and Aunt Danielle Hannah. Cousins Bradley (Courtney) Lachance, Brianna (Matt) Lachance, Cadance Henry, Andrea Jamieson, Ryan Hannah, Mason Hannah. Special family friend Denis Lauzon.
