Supporting Ontario Special Olympians – local schools adopt athletes

The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board is supporting the upcoming Ontario Special Olympics Winter Games in Sault Ste. Marie by adopting 17 athletes.

Board education director, Rose Burton Spohn, says Our Lady of Lourdes and Our Lady of Fatima in Elliot Lake, St. Mary in Massey, Sacred Heart in Espanola and St. Mary’s in Blind River have all sponsored an athlete.
The eight other schools, as well as the board’s trustees, sponsored the rest.

We are grateful and proud of the support that our students, employees, and trustees have shown these athletes, Burton Spohn adds.

Special Olympics organizing committee representatives were on hand for the presentation Wednesday of $8,517 in sponsorship dollars.

The Ontario Special Olympics Winter Games take place from January 31st to February 3rd.
