Educators take part in suicide intervention workshop

Educators with Rainbow Schools are taking part in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) at the Centre for Education in Sudbury, the first of three training sessions to take place this year.

Norm Blaseg, the board’s director of education says mental health and well-being is essential for academic success and personal growth, and this training will help staff help students.

Blaseg adds ASIST will teach the 15 participants to recognize when someone may be at risk of suicide and how to work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety.

The two-day session concludes today.
