The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities wants to meet with the Premier over the closure of Resolute Forest Products in Iroquois Falls. The mill, the latest to shutdown in the north, is closing December 22nd and throwing about 180 people out of work. FONOM says the mill closure will have reverberating effects throughout the small town. Meanwhile the MPP for Timmins-James Bay, Gilles Bisson, is pointing the finger at Liberal policies in part for the Resolute closure. He says the Liberals let Resolute sell power dams which helped keep it competitive. Bisson says once those dams were gone, the mill faced higher energy costs making it less competitive.
