Federal riding MP Carol Hughes says the Harper Tories are putting the interest of wealthy Canadians ahead of safety. Hughes wants the feds to reinstate funding for heavy search and rescue teams that was cut two years ago just before the Elliot Lake mall collapse. And she doesn’t t buy the federal argument that the provinces should pay for these specialty teams. She says for one thing regional municipalities don’t have budgets to pay for a program that got started with federal dollars. Hughes doesn’t like that the Tories are introducing pre-election goodies that provide tax breaks to rich Canadians, but safety remains ignored.
