Autism Ontario invites public to the Autism Reality Experience

Want to know what it is like to be autistic? A unique opportunity will take place in Espanola.

Autism Acceptance and Autism Ontario will host the Autism Reality Experience in Espanola on Sunday, November 11th.

Anyone wishing to attend, can choose the 15-minute time slot they want to attend between 1:00pm to 7:00pm.

Then, show up for your time at the portable module in front of Espanola High School for 15 minutes.
The Autism Reality Experience is an innovative, hands on training session in a specially set up mobile unit which has been developed to give people an experience of the sensory processing difficulties faced by people on the autism spectrum.

The experience is fully immersive, interactive and a must for anyone who is involved in supporting people on the autism spectrum.

Sensory processing difficulties are very common among people on the autism spectrum and this can have a profound impact on a person’s ability to manage with day to day living.

Each participant will go through a video demonstration that will tap into their emotional and physical sensory systems. Individuals will be provided gloves and head phones while watching a video, and then perform a number of tasks after the video is over.

They cannot ask any questions or ask for assistance.

Each demonstration will last approximately 15 minutes and allows for 2 people at a time to go through.
