OPP are using another tool to help them control traffic in critical times. Closure gates are now up at key exit and entry ramps along Highway 17 and Highway 69. The gates will swing shut during very bad weather or if there’s a serious accident. Police will also activate the gates on rare occasions when warranted by construction activity. You can’t miss the gates; they’re made of steel, are waist high and are the width of the ramp when closed. If you ignore the gates and venture onto the highway, you’ll get hit with a $110 fine.
