Man caught after trying to avoid R.I.D.E. checkpoint

A 46-year-old Chelmsford man faces charges for trying to avoid a R.I.D.E. checkpoint near Highway 144.  Sudbury police say the man made an abrupt U-turn when he saw the checkpoint and took off at a high rate of speed.  Police pursued the pick-up truck and later found it abandoned in a driveway but the man had taken off into a wooded area.  They found the accused by using information from the vehicle and charged him with stunt driving and flight while pursued by police.  The man’s truck is also impounded for a week and he’s also lost his driver’s license for seven days.  In addition, the man is charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle.
