Huron Central Railway needs funding to ensure survival: NDP

The Huron Central Railway dilemma was front and centre at Queen’s Park.

During Question Period on Tuesday, NDP’s Northern Development and Mines critic, Mike Mantha, said the Ford government needs to get its act together and provide Huron Central Railway with the $46.2 million in funding it needs to remain in operation.

Huron Central Railway is needs the funding by the end of the year.

Mantha asked why it’s so difficult for the member for Sault Ste. Marie, PC MPP Ross Romano, to arrange a meeting between the ministers and representatives of the Huron Central Railway task force.

Mantha adds thousands of northern jobs depend on the survival of the railroad as Huron Central Railway serves the steel industry in Sault Ste. Marie and industries all the way to Sudbury.
