Integrity report: Espanola council defers recommendations

Espanola council has deferred making any decision on the recommendations in an Integrity Report.

The report, by Integrity Commissioner, Jan Parnega, cited Mayor Piche, and councilors Ron Duplessis, Ken Duplessis, Ray Dufour and Heather Mallot’s behaviours as unacceptable and abusive to staff.

She also recommended several sanctions, which were on the agenda for last night’s meeting, but Councillor Ken Duplessis says he wanted it deferred because one) he didn’t know it was going to be on the agenda and two) he wanted the opportunity to talk to legal counsel.

He told his peers that he has that meeting set for Thursday, September 27th.

As a result, council voted in favour of deferring the motion on the sanctions until its next regular meeting in October.

The report was put together by Parnega after nine department heads complained about how they were treated by council.
