UPDATE: OPP investigating disturbance at Manitoulin high school – more charges laid

Additional charges against several people have been laid involving what is now being called a brawl at Manitoulin Secondary School.

Manitoulin OPP says on Friday September 14th at around noon, they responded to a disturbance at the school.

A difference of opinion between two students escalated along racial lines and the brawl broke out in the parking lot.

Several students fled and told their parents, many of them from M’Chigeeng.

As a result, several parents showed up and now several people are facing charges, so far all from M’Chigeeng First Nation: a 38 year old woman, 16-year old and 17-year old youth have all been charged with assault; a 14 year old female with uttering threats and assault and a 13 year old youth with assault with a weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon.

They are to appear in Gore Bay court on October 31st.

More charges may be laid.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call OPP.
