Espanola council has finally made a decision on the building of a new fire hall.
After some discussion on water suppression methods and the importance of an additional tanker, council decided to go with four bays for the new hall.
The fourth bay will allow the fire department to keep the oldest truck to provide additional water to the benefit of non-hydrant protected areas, as well as provide firefighters additional space to refit the trucks inside the building after calls.
Lignum Builders, a local firm, was awarded the project at $2,064,549.
The funding will come from reserves, which have been set aside over the years specifically for the project with no additional costs to the taxpayer.
