Scam in Espanola – seeking male suspect

The Espanola Police Service is looking for a man following a scam involving the theft of ATM cards.

Last Thursday, September 6th, the Espanola Police Service received a complaint an ATM card was stolen from a man’s wallet, and used within minutes at local ATM machines.

The complainant told the police he used his ATM card to make a purchase and while doing so, was aware of a man standing behind him in line.
After making his purchase, the man approached him outside insisting he had dropped $20.

The man agreed to split the $20, quickly putting two five dollar bills into the complainant’s wallet, while at the same removing his ATM card without his knowledge.

The man was believed to have obtained the complainant’s PIN while standing behind him and withdrew $1,400 from the complainant’s account in three separate ATM withdrawals.

The male suspect is described as being of Middle Eastern decent; heavy set; speaks with an Arabic accent and was wearing a white T-Shirt and white baseball cap.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
