Hip Chicks Fun Run/Walk set to go in Elliot Lake

Ladies are invited to lace up for the Third Annual Hip Chicks Fun Run/Walk in Elliot Lake.

Heather Ireland decided to start a run open to all women of all physical capabilities to take part at whatever pace suits them and just complete it.

The five-kilometre event is set for Sunday, September 30th and there is a $15 registration fee with the funds going towards offsetting costs and donations to local charities.

The run is open to women of all ages, but registration and prizes only apply to women who are 18 or older.

As well, Algoma Public Health sets up a table with health and nutrition information, and hands out swag bags.

Participants can register for the run until September 15th at Sarich’s Source for Sports, North Shore Printing and Advertising and the Ruben Yli-Juuti Centre.

She said the run is open to women of all ages, but registration and prizes only apply to women who are 18 or older.

Ireland said the Hip Chick’s is very fortunate where it gets most prizes donated, but there are still overhead costs associated with the event.

Last year, they were able to make a small donation to Maplegate House for Women.  This year’s donations will go to Maplegate House for Women, The Alzheimer’s Society – Algoma, St. Joseph’s Hospital CT scanner and Grace Christian Church.

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. at Westview Park with a warm up with yoga by Kim Barlett and zumba with Kellie Robinson of No Excuses Zumba. And, waiting at the finish line is delicious cake and congratulatory messages for a ‘run well done’.
