The trial of a Manitoulin Island man accused of beating another man to death is expected to take a while before it resumes.
Joseph Edwards is accused of beating 85-year-old Jim Still to death, but his trial is on hold pending a decision by the Ontario Review Board about his mental capacity to stand trial.
Still who was a relatively new resident of the Wikwemikong Nursing Home was allegedly attacked by Edwards, who was also a resident.
Mr. Still died five days after the incident as a result of his injuries.
Meanwhile, Still’s widow, Ellen Cooper, is suing the Wikwemikong Nursing Home, its parent company, a nurse and a personal support worker for $9 million alleging breach of contract in failing to provide Still with a safe environment.
