Health unit posts swimming advisory at Little Basswood Lake in Huron Shores

You don’t want to swim at Little Basswood Lake in Huron Shores for the next while.

That’s because Algoma Public Health has detected high levels of bacteria in the water.

Swimming in these conditions can cause skin, eye, nose and throat infections.

Also if you swallow the water, you could develop a stomach illness.

The health unit says the advisory is just that, an advisory and it doesn’t shut down the beach or prevent people from swimming at the site.

It will lift the advisory when the bacteria count returns to a safe level.
