Area politician named new FONOM president

The Mayor of St. Charles has been named the second Vice President of a Northern Ontario lobby group.

Paul Schoppmann was named to the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities at its most recent conference.

The new president of FONOM is Danny Whalen, a city councillor from Temiskaming Shores.

He replaces Al Spacek, FONOM’s long-time president and Mayor of Kapuskasing.

The board’s first Vice President is Mac Bain a North Bay city councillor.

FONOM lobbies the provincial government on issues that affect the north.

Issues include four laning the Trans-Canada Highway and the impact Species at Risk legislation will have on the forest sector.
