NDP keep Liberals on hot seat over Fort Frances wood mill

The one-two punch the Progressive Conservatives and NDP are delivering against the Liberals over a wood mill in the north continues. This time it was the NDP again calling on the government to increase cutting rights so a mill in Fort Frances can remain open. If the mill closes, one thousand people will lose their jobs. The NDP called for the restoration of cutting during a rally in Fort Frances that included municipal and First Nation leaders. Sarah Campbell, the New Democrat for Kenora-Rainy River, says the government has the power to increase the allocation. Campbell says it’s urgent that the allocation be increased before the winter freeze otherwise the mill will be destroyed.       Since taking power from the Tories in 2003, the Liberals have reduced wood cutting rights by half to 13-million cubic metres a year.
