History Day in Kagawong – an accidental death and an Ontario premier

History Day in Kagawong will focus on two stories: the Henry brothers, founders of the village, and the 80th anniversary of the Daniel Dodge tragedy.

In August 1938, Donald Dodge, the heir to the Dodge Motor Company fortune, blew himself up accidently in a dynamite explosion, then fell out of a boat and drowned trying to reach hospital.

He was on his honeymoon.

The accident occurred just outside of Kagawong at a place called Dodge Lodge.

One of the speakers is also the great, great granddaughter of William Henry.

One of William’s sons, George Stewart Henry, grew up to be premier of Ontario from 1930 to 1934.

A testimonial letter about William Henry, written by his son is part of the museum’s permanent collection and will also be featured.

It all takes place Thursday at the Park Centre with a matinee at 3:30pm and an evening presentation at 7:30pm.

The Billings Museum Board is hosting the event.
