Election for council and school boards … who is running?

Municipal clerks will be finalizing the list of candidates for municipal councils and school boards in Ontario.

Today is the deadline for municipal offices to verify candidates for the upcoming October 22nd election in Ontario.

ELECTION 2018: FOR WEBSITE: PLEASE NOTE – THESE CANDIDATES ARE UNOFFICIAL UNTIL VERIFIED AT 2:00PM ON MONDAY: city and town clerks will examine all the paperwork submitted with candidate applications by the deadline of 2 p.m. Friday to declare if all the unofficial nominations are actually official.

 

WHO IS RUNNING:

Laurier Faldien of Nairn & Hyman Township has been acclaimed as Mayor.

Incumbents Brigita Gingras and Riet Wigzell will take on Kathy Bourrier, Frederic Diebel, Nicole Minialoff, Rod MacDonald and Shelly Ann Lowery.

 

Baldwin Township has yet to post its list.

 

In Espanola, Mayor Ron Piche is being challenged for the mayor’s seat by Jill Beer.

Five of the six current Espanola town councillors are running again. Robert Yocum has decided not to seek election for the next four-year term through 2022. In the running are incumbents Bill Foster (deputy mayor) along with veterans Ray Dufour, Ken Duplessis, Ron Duplessis and Heather Malloy. Challenging them for a council seat are Sandra Hayden and Maureen A. Van Alstine.

Sables-Spanish Rivers incumbent Leslie Gamble will be challenged by David Wolff, Doug Steinke and Harry Hobbs.

Vying for six council positions are incumbents: Patricia Hnatuik, Glenda Massicotte, Thoma Crabs, Charlie Smith, Susan Sonnenburg and newcomers: Dale Rivers, Bill Webster, Eldon Stinson, Kim Muncaster, Elizabeth Gamble, Kevin Burke, Cheryl Phillips and Merri-Ann Hobbs.

 

Town of Spanish: Mayor Ted Clague is being challenged by former councillor, Jocelyne Bishop. Incumbent councilors, Anthony Diodati and Karen Von Pickartz are taking on Gary Bishop, Russell Christensen, Debra Joncas, Sandra Trudel and Mary-Louise Zarichney.

 

Township of the North Shore: Incumbent Randi Condie is being challenged by Joyce Robitaille and Shelly Glen. Councillor at large, incumbent Brenda Green; Ward 2 incumbent, Barbara Barton and Ward 3, Melody Rose have all been acclaimed. However, there will be a race in Ward 1 between Nicholas Gagnon and Gary Gamble.

 

In the Township of Huron Shores: Georges Bilodeau and Eloise (Boe) Eldner will fight it out for Mayor.

The Township is divided into wards

Ward 1 Candidates: Blair Mackinnon and Darlene Walsh

Ward 2 Candidates: Nancy Jones-Scissons and Debbie Kirby Debbie

Ward 3 Candidates: Jane Armstrong and Dale Wedgwood

Ward 4 Candidates: Gordon Campbell Gordon and Jock Pirrie Jock

 

Elliot Lake Mayor Dan Marchisella learned only days before nominations closed on Friday that he will be opposed in his quest for a second four-year term. With only days left to file, Daemon Jacques-Palmer announced he would challenge Marchisella for the mayor’s job.

There are 15 candidates running for the six available positions on the City of Elliot Lake council, including all six incumbent councillors. Up for re-election are Tammy VanRoon, Ed Pearce, Chris Patrie, Norman Mann, Luc Cyr and Sandy Finamore. Challenging the incumbents are Greg Lawrence, Geraldine Rena Robinson, James Pawson, Tom Turner, Mike Thomas, Luc D. Morrissette, Roger Hachey, Frederick Joseph Henwood and Helen Lefebvre.

 

In the Town of Blind River, there’s a three-way race for mayor including current multi-term Mayor Sue Jensen and challengers Sally Hagman and Alex Solomon.

Seeking election as one of the six members of Blind River town council are incumbents Jim Dunbar, H.P. Roy, Clifford Spratt, Steven Wells and Paula Summers. Looking to fill the remaining town council seat are Betty Ann Dunbar and Robert Ambeault.

 

Seeking election as Rainbow District School Board trustee from Espanola are Daphne Allen and Robert Clement. (one to be elected.)

Running for the Huron Superior Catholic District School Board (two positions to be filled) are Lindsay Liske, Kathleen Rosilius and Reginald Simon.

Two people are seeking the single spot as French Catholic school trustee: Paul Gervais and Gabriel Tremblay.

Looking for a seat on the English Algoma public school board are Marie Murphy-Foran and Pauline Brunet (one to be elected).

As well, aspiring to serve as the sole French public school trustee is Suzanne Nolin.

 

MANITOULIN ISLAND:

NORTHEASTERN MANITOULIN AND THE ISLANDS:

Mayor Alan MacNevin is being cshallenged by Melissa Pete

Ward 1 Laurie Cook is acclaimed.

In Ward 2, Barbara Baker, Al Boyd, Michael Erskine and Cody Leeson are in the running.

Two candidates, Bill Koehler and Sean O’Hare, are vying for Ward 3.

And, there are four candidates Jim Ferguson, Dawn Orr, Paul Skippen and Bruce Wood vying for Ward 4.

 

Larry Killens has not submitted his name for another run as English Public School Board Trustee. Linda Erskine and Margaret Stringer are vying for the position to represent the Manitoulin Island District.

 

Township of Billings: Mayoral Candidates: Ian Anderson, Barb Erskine and Margaret Tuomi. Candidates for Council: Sharon Alkenbrack, Bryan Barker, Paul Darlaston, Michael Hunt, Sandi Hurcomb, Sharon Jackson and Eric Parsons.

 

The Town of Gore Bay has yet to release its list.

 

Township of Assiginack has yet to release its list.

 

Township of Burpee and Mills has yet to release its list.

 

Township of Central Manitoulin has yet to release its list.

 

Township of Cockburn Island has yet to release its list.

 

Township of Gordon/Barrie Island has yet to release its list

 

Township of Tehkummah has yet to release its list.
