The West Parry Sound OPP reports it is assisting in evacuating the Henvey Inlet village. Mandatory evacuations have been put in place for locals with boat access only in the geographic area of Georgian Bay East to Highway 69. And road access residents in this area are being given 12 hours to get out of their homes. This includes residents along the north and south shores of the French River, Pickerel River and Hartley Bay and  Henvey Inlet First Nation. Key Harbour and Killarney are also under a states of emergency with mandatory evacuations happening.
The fire is still blazing out of control and has grown to nearly 5,000 hectares. It has also jumped the French River. An easterly wind is pushing the fire west according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.
Drivers using Highway 69 can expect to see heavy smoke coverage along the road south of Grundy Lake Provincial Park due to ongoing efforts to suppress the forest fire. If you spot a forest fire south of French or Mattawa rivers this should be considered an emergency situation and you’re asked to call 9-1-1 right away to report it.
