Bus depot assailant sentencing date set

Alexander Stavropoulos, who was shot by police during a confrontation at the downtown bus terminal in April, hopes to have his charges resolved soon.

Stavropoulos, 25, has been in custody while awaiting sentencing and is facing four counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, five counts of assault with a weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Officers confronted him inside the terminal during the evening hours on April 1, after he tried to access the transit security office while armed with two knives.

Shots were fired by one officer and he was injured and hospitalized, and a transit employee was also hurt by shrapnel.

He is expected to be back in Sudbury court July 25th for sentencing.
