In light of this week’s house fire in McKerrow, Espanola’s fire chief is reminding people to have smoke alarms and CO detectors in their home. It was a smoke alarm that woke residents from their sleep early Monday morning allowing everyone to get out safely. Fire chief Mike Pichor says homes that use fossil fuels need to have carbon monoxide detectors. CO is known as the silent killer because it’s colourless and odourless. Pichor says his people will gladly inspect buildings to ensure they’re equipped with the right detectors. The inspections are free and to arrange one, call 869-3888.
