A major fundraising campaign will begin in Elliot Lake in the near future to offset the $1.5 million dollar cost of a CT scanner for St. Joseph’s General Hospital.
Elliot Lake council is unanimously behind the move following a presentation by hospital personnel including hospital CEO Pierre Ozolins.
Ozolins says there are a high number of patients sent to Sault Ste. Marie or Sudbury for the procedure every year.
The hospital foundation wants to raise $250,000 locally and is also asking the city to invest $500,000 for the equipment.
Council is expected to vote on pulling the half-a-million-dollars from reserves on July 9.
$750,000 will also be needed to renovate the first floor for the equipment.
