Via Rail Canada has cancelled its passenger service between Sudbury and White River because of a strike notice given to Canadian Pacific Railway by its unions.
The unions representing train operators and signalling workers, the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, gave CP Rail notice that they were going to strike as of 10:00pm last night.
As a result, Via cancelled passenger rail service between Sudbury and White River.
CP workers rejected the company’s latest contract offer on Friday, but CP says it will keep meeting with union representatives while launching its work-stoppage contingency plan.
