Mike Mantha hasn’t wasted time asking the Liberals when they plan to implement recommendations from the Elliot Lake mall collapse final report. One recommendation calls for enhancing training for search and rescue teams. And Mantha, who is the MPP for Algoma Manitoulin, tied this to another recommendation that’s dear to northerners. One recommendation calls for urban search and rescue to build partnerships with Ontario Mine Rescue which has nearly 900 trained mining personnel who are highly trained to deal with things like cave-ins. However Mantha didn’t get much of a response from the Liberals. The Premier and the minister of municipal affairs both say they’re creating an advisory committee on how to implement the recommendations.
