Hospital workers in Espanola joined their provincial counterparts in hosting a rally focusing on the need for a new contract.
The rallies, held yesterday brought attention to the fact that there are some 75,000 hospital workers who are without a contract.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), SEIU Healthcare and Unifor have formed an alliance representing hospital staff at more than 100 hospitals who are seeking a fair contract without concessions.
There are 89 CUPE Local 1332 members at the Espanola Regional Hospital, 23 full-time, 66 part-time, who are hoping to see a contract in the near future.
Members are cautiously optimistic a new deal can be reached this coming weekend when negotiations resume.
The talks failed last November.
