SHOOTING AT SUDBURY BUS TERMINAL – TWO IN HOSPITAL

Greater Sudbury Police are still on the scene of the downtown transit terminal after one man was shot by police last evening.
The Greater Sudbury Transit Terminal downtown is closed for the time being, however, buses are still running.
The Downtown Transit Terminal transfer services have been moved to a temporary location at the municipal Elgin Street/CP Rail parking lot this morning.
Passengers can wait for transfers on a warm bus, and staff will be available to answer questions, guide residents, and ensure safety on site.
Residents will be advised once the main Downtown Transit Terminal reopens.
Those with a parking pass for the Elgin Street/CP Rail lot can park in any other municipal lot without penalty.
Reminder: Greater Sudbury Transit routes follow the Saturday service schedule today for Easter Monday.
Meanwhile, a video posted to Facebook captured the shooting of an assailant as he charged Greater Sudbury Police officers inside the downtown bus depot.
The 27-second video, posted by Jeremy Terry, shows three police officers, their guns drawn, approach a man inside the bus depot on Sunday.
A city employee was injured in the frightening episode at the bus depot, which involved a knife-wielding attacker.
The assailant, a 24-year-old man, was injured after being shot by an officer, according to the province’s Special Investigations Unit.
The SIU did not release the man’s name.
In a release late Sunday, the City of Greater Sudbury confirmed ‘an incident occurred tonight (Sunday) at the transit terminal that required a police response.’
An individual armed with two knives attempted to gain access to the transit security office, prompting staff to take refuge in a secure area of the facility.
Greater Sudbury Police were called and quickly responded to the incident.
A city employee has been taken to hospital with minor injuries, and is in stable condition,” the release states. “No other residents were involved in the incident.”
