A big issue for one of the three people running for mayor of Blind River is the town’s infrastructure. Andre Berthelot says sound infrastructure helps attract employers. But he says if you’re infrastructure is in a poor state it’s then tougher to attract business. Berthelot doesn’t believe the town is addressing the issue of infrastructure well enough. He says council recently got a report saying it needs to spend more than $4 million a year to upgrade its existing infrastructure. Berthelot also believes by borrowing nearly 50-million dollars on an energy project council has gone into business itself to create jobs. He opposes this kind of approach to job creation because it’s risky and tax dollars should not be used this way.
