Elliot Lake Councillor Connie Nykyforak Resigns

Elliot Lake City Councillor Connie Nykyforak has tendered her resignation effective immediately.

No reason as to why she resigned was released.

However, council held a closed meeting this past Monday and then announced publicly Nykyforak was removed from all committees and boards.

Mayor Dan Marchisella told The Moose, Nykyforak’s observed behavior on some external boards and committees was progressively getting more disruptive, so council saw the need to remove her in order to mitigate any future liabilities or damages to the municipality.

Nykyforak was not present when council made the decision.

According to the Municipal Act, the City must declare the seat vacant at the next regular Council meeting on Monday, March 26th.

Council now has to decide how to fill the vacant seat; either holding a by-election or appointing a member of the public who consents to take on the role for the balance of the term to October 2018
