Elliot Lake council adopts a new recount policy

Elliot Lake council has endorsed a recount policy in time for the October 22nd municipal election.

Director of clerks and planning services, Leslie Sprague, recommended the new policy to council at its meeting Monday evening.

The policy would become part of regulations already governing municipal elections.

The policy would allow a recount for either the mayor or councillor positions within 15 days after the election declaration and only if there are 10 votes or less.

If a tie vote remains after the recount, the clerk shall choose the successful candidate or candidates by lot.
