Anishinabek Nation signs gasoline and tobacco AIP with Ontario

The Anishinabek Nation and the Ontario government have signed a non-binding Agreement-in-Principle to explore frameworks in regards to gasoline and tobacco regulation and revenue-sharing.

Grand Council Chief Patrick Madahbee says in signing the agreement, it simply means they will continue to have open discussions with the province while also continuing discussions with citizens and First Nations retailers.
Obtaining their input and direction is our first and foremost priority, emphasized Madahbee.

In June 2015, the Anishinabek Chiefs-in-Assembly unanimously supported the development of the plan and subsequent resolutions last year supported the development of the agreement between the two.

The current provincial allocation system or quota is based on a formula managed by the province and calculated by a percentage of registered members.
