Bus service to Sudbury coming to Manitoulin Island

A new bus service between Manitoulin Island and Sudbury could be in place by early Spring.

Ontario Northland assistant deputy minister, Rob Campbell, with the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines, says the government will be providing a bus service between Sudbury and Manitoulin Island communities, starting as early as mid-March of this year.

The plan is to see five-day-a-week service, one trip a day, each way, and there will be a fare on a per kilometre basis, added Campbell.

Campbell says there are also looking for gas stations and restaurants to act as ticket and bus parcel sales agents and stops along the way.

An agent has already been found in Espanola.

Campbell made the announcement at the meeting of the Manitoulin Municipal Association last week.
