NDP keep pursuing mine safety inquiry

The NDP continue to press for a mine inquiry into the safety of Ontario’s mines.  The renewed call follows a fatal mine accident on Sunday in the Sudbury area where a worker was killed at a smelter plant.  However the Liberals won’t commit to an inquiry.  Rather they’re continuing to review mine safety through a series of public consultation meetings.  But that’s not good enough for NDP leader Andrea Horwath who says the Liberals aren’t serious about mine safety.  Horwath says the Liberal caucus is not paying attention to the issue and as a result Ontario workers are dying on the job.  In response labour minister Kevin Flynn says the government is committed to the safety of all workers in the province despite NDP claims that it’s not.  Flynn says the government continues to hold a series of public consultations that examine mine safety.  So far meetings have been held in Sudbury, Kirkland Lake and Timmins.
