Water project for Whitefish River First Nation

A major water improvement project is underway in Whitefish River First Nation.

Ceccetto & Sons Limited of Sudbury has been awarded the contract to build a reservoir.

Once constructed, the elevated storage reservoir will serve the community’s long-term drinking water needs and provide sustainable long-term water pressure to improve fire protection to the community’s residents and infrastructure.

Chief Shining Turtle says citizens depend on safe and secure drinking water from source to tap and the reservoir will complement the water treatment plant, which began operating in 2010.

The federal government is providing $3.5 million toward the project.

Construction is scheduled to begin immediately and is expected to be completed by October 2018.

Whitefish River First Nation is located about 25 minutes south of Espanola and has 450 residents.
