Homeowners who live in rural areas might one day get a break on their heating bills. It all depends if Union Gas can expand into these regions. North Bay council has passed a motion calling on the province to help the utility do just that. Councillor Mac Bain says in addition to saving money, the conversion makes homeowners eligible for home insurance. Bain says right now the insurance industry won’t sell insurance to homeowners in unorganized townships who heat their homes with wood. Bain adds the province has money for this kind of natural gas expansion because it would be deemed a capital infrastructure project.
