TRANS-CANADA ONE LANE OPEN – ONE FATALITY

UPDATE AT 9:30am:

FATAL COLLISION CLOSES HIGHWAY 17

UPDATE AT 10 AM: HIGHWAY 17 ONE LANE OPEN – ONE FATALITY: The Trans-Canada between Jacklin Road and Sand Bay now has one open lane while OPP technical collision investigators carry out their work.
This morning, at approximately 4:40 am, the Espanola OPP with the assistance of the emergency services and the Baldwin Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17 east of Mckerrow in Baldwin Township.
The accident occurred between Jacklin Road and Sand Bay Road, effectively cutting off any travel options for motorists.
There was no detour, but the one open lane is now allowing for a slow movement of traffic on the major thoroughfare.
Police say an eastbound passenger vehicle collided with a westbound transport truck. The driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The OPP Technical Collision Investigators are at the scene.
Further information will be provided as it becomes available.
