Mayoral candidate says small industry key to Elliot Lake growth

A candidate running for mayor of Elliot Lake says the community can no longer depend on the retirement living concept.        Dan Marchisella says a way needs to be found to keep the population up.  He says 20 years ago Elliot Lake was an affordable place to live for retirees and the city was one of the top 10 places in Canada to retire in.  But Marchisella says now we’re not even on the radar.  Marchisella says Elliot Lake has a host of small manufacturers with niche products.  He says that’s the key and that’s what the city needs to go after.  He cites solar panels as a possible industry.  That’s because they use thorium and Elliot Lake has plenty of that.  Marchisella says the community should find companies looking to expand or relocate and convince them Elliot Lake is right for them.  Next up on our schedule with interviews with the Elliot Lake mayoral candidates is councillor Tom Farquhar.
