$2.4 Million in funding for Mining Training

Up to 50 First Nation participants will be trained for work in the mining industry.

Yesterday, Employment Mininster Patty Hajdu and MPs Marc Serré and Paul Lefebvre announced funding of $2.6 million for a project for Indigenous people in Naughton, Sudbury and Chelmsford.

Through the Developing Indigenous Environmental Keepers Program, Whitefish First Nation near Naughton will provide environmental training to 50 participants including 15 youth and 35 women. Participants will take part in activities focusing on the environmental aspects of mining, mine closure and rehabilitation of closed mines.
As a result of this program, the participants, who are not enrolled in any post‑secondary training or education, can possibly increase their employability.
