Elementary books on treaties launched on Manitoulin Island

Two elementary books were launched Monday on Manitoulin Island to teach Ontario school children about Indigenous treaties.  One of the books is called Alex Shares his Wampum Belt and is based on a real 11-year-old boy from Sturgeon Falls.  Alex Hebert was at the Manitoulin launch, which took place at the Whitefish River First Nation.  Grand Council Chief Pat Madahbee says the books will teach young children that treaties are binding and sacred agreements.  The book launches coincide with Treaties Recognition Week.
