International speaker on paper opens Fibre Arts Festival

Can paper change lives? Of course it can.
Just ask Espanola Fibre Arts Festival keynote speaker, Drew Matott.
He will kick off the festival tonight at 7pm at the United Church.
Matott says they have brought his portable paper making studio with him to show how the milfoil in Clear Lake can be recycled into paper and also showing students at local schools how to turn clothing into paper.
It’s all part of his international initiative, the Peace Paper Project.
Matott divides his time between teaching, completing studio work, designing new papermaking endeavors and directing the Project.
He has taught photography and contemporary printmaking at several American colleges.
Since 2009, he has taught and exhibited internationally.
Matott will also be visiting AB Ellis Public School, Espanola High and the Espanola Friendship Circle during his visit to Espanola.
The only festival of its kind, this is the sixth year for the four-day event.
