Pickle Ball Facility – more answers needed

While Elliot Lake council considers to wrestle as to where a multi-plex recreation facility should be located, they also want to know more about a proposed new sport called pickle ball.

Councillors agreed with their peer, Tammy Van Roon, that a lot more information about a pickle ball facility is needed before making any decision on whether it will become part of the city’s athletic programs.

Pickleball is a court sport played on a badminton-sized court with the net lowered to 34 inches at the center.
It is played with a perforated plastic ball similar to a whiffle ball and wood or composite paddles about twice the size of table tennis paddles.

The proposal came from a potential investor, but Van Roon says as to whether it would be located in a proposed multi-plex centre or as a standalone facility has not even been discussed.

Costs and location are other considerations, as well as if the public wants it.

She asked for council to defer the motion to move ahead until the investor appears before the members to outline their proposal and/or whether it is a sport that would be welcome in Elliot Lake.

Council agreed and deferred the motion.
