Defense asks to have Sudbury bribe trial dismissed

When the Sudbury bribe trial resumes October 10th, it won’t be to hear any defense witnesses.  The Sudbury Star says instead, the judge will hear arguments for and against to dismiss the case.  Sudbury businessman Gerry Lougheed Junior and former chief of staff to the Premier Patricia Sorbara are charged with bribing a former Liberal candidate not to seek the party nomination.  Both deny the allegation.   Their respective lawyers want the judge to look at the Crown’s case to see if there’s any evidence of guilt that involves their clients.  They say if there is none, then the case should be dropped.
