Local Tick Tested Positive for Lyme Disease

One blacklegged tick that was found locally has been tested positive for bacteria that can cause Lyme disease.

The Sudbury and District Health Unit is reminding you to take extra precautions to protect yourself from ticks by avoiding walking in tall grass, keeping wood piles and bird feeders away from your home and wearing long, light coloured clothing and closed toe shoes.

The health unit says if a tick is found embedded in your skin you should remove it with tweezers as soon as possible. Some of the symptoms of Lyme disease include a rash that looks like a bull’s eye, fever, headache and joint and muscle pain.

If you come in contact with a tick you should remove it immediately and contact a health care provider.
