No appeal in acquittal of former engineer who inspected Algo Centre Mall before deadly collapse

The Crown won’t appeal a judge’s decision that cleared a former engineer who was charged after the Algo Centre Mall roof top collapsed in Elliot Lake.  CBC says the Crown decided against appealing the verdict after reviewing the legal aspects of the case and the judge’s decision.  Robert Wood gave the mall a clean bill of health two months before the roof collapse in June 2012 killing two women and injuring several people.  Wood was charged with two counts of criminal negligence causing death and a single count of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.  No one else has ever been charged in connection with the collapse which led to an inquiry.
