A five-year study on dementia will be carried out at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. One area the $1 million study will examine is dementia care for indigenous people. The team will work with First Nations on Manitoulin Island who were the first to raise dementia as an issue among Aboriginal people in 2007. Recent studies show that dementia among First Nations occurs more frequently than in non-indigenous populations.
